Summer Vacation Activities
If you’re looking for places to stay near Yellowstone, The Pollard is the perfect launching point for your Montana vacation. Whether your passion is trout fishing in Montana or whitewater rafting the Yellowstone, tubing the Stillwater River, hiking the Beartooth backcountry and Absaroka wilderness, or riding your motorcycle over the Beartooth Pass, it’s all right outside The Pollard’s front door.
The Beartooth Highway, the most scenic approach to Yellowstone National Park, begins in Red Lodge just steps from The Pollard. It climbs to the Beartooth Pass, an elevation of nearly 11,000 feet, and then descends to Cooke City and the northeast entrance to Yellowstone. In these mountains, it isn’t unusual to see snow well into July, making the wilderness a haven for Montana backcountry skiing in late spring and early summer. In fact, the Beartooth Basin Ski Area is open from late May until mid July, and is located near the summit of the Beartooth Highway, about 30 minutes from the hotel.
